The song writing wasn't that impressive. Every song has the same equation of

simple guitar riff with slight wah/compression effect repeating over and over
singer opens with a synthesized scream or chant of some sort
singer starts chanting an autotuned chorus over the guitar riff
guitarist does an awesome solo (solos WERE awesome in this album)
riff plays again with the same monotonous chanting until the song ends

The only song where I actually felt emotion from the singer goes

YOU!
Every time we touch
Girl you know you got me (got me), on pins and needles
OH!
It's not about the lust
Now you know you got me (got me), on pins and needles

that was a pretty powerful chorus

But even in that song (Zombie Dance) everything other than the chorus sounded repetitive and almost like a gothic pop song

I notice in every single "whats your favorite song thread" the choices are from older albums, so i cant help but think people agree.

NOTE:
I realize this is a ETF fan site, I'm not trying to start a flame war. Im just saying that I dont think the new album compares to great songs like
As Youre Falling Down
Situations
This War Is Ours
Ashley
You Are So Beautiful
Reverse This Curse

and pretty much any other song from older albums. the new album is the only one I actually deleted songs from on iTunes because Id rather not have them than have them play while shuffling.

You like "ashley" and "you are so beautiful"
more than day of wreckoning and the aftermath?

They're on Interscope.
What do you expect.
Stop the moaning and enjoy or stop listening to etf.

Ashley and You Are So Beautiful aren't my favorite songs songs, but at least they had some heart put in to them.

I liked their punk rock metal sound a lot more than their new sound, because now they sound like everyone else. Before, they were unique, now they are throwing beats together with a synthesizer and over-distorted guitar and it's just not as good.

Their sound should define what label they choose, not vice versa. I'm not moaning, I was simply asking if anyone agreed... and I guess not on this fanboy forum.

Maybe I should stop listening to ETF. That makes me sad since I used to admire them so much. I've covered like 5 of their songs on guitar and listen to them every day.

I guess I'll just delete their self titled one and hope they realize their mistake before the next release.

I throughouly enjoyed the new album though I can't help but to agree that their lyircs are sub par I'm not sure why Craig is an awesome writer just look at what he did with blessthefall. but I can't agree with the new music being bad yes it's a bit unoriginal bit hey it happens they must have rushed the writing process, though the riffs and drums and voice has matured ten fold. Listen to Prepare your weapon, final blow, world around me, the aftermath an so on and you'll here the improvement and talent! This album is generations in front of twio and as for your choice of etfs best songs well you cone off hypocritical and dumb ashley is cheesey no offence to ETF you are so beautiful is yet again about a girl as is situation and reverse this curse. I mean WTF have you even listensd to the webs we weave or my apocalypse those are the songs I hope ETF start writing agian. The Albums good not great not rewriting rock but they surely have offered a cool new unique refreshing contrabution to it.

Max: My God!
Craig: Forgive Me
Max: For All Of
Craig: The Bodies
Max: I've Taken
Craig: In Battle
Max & Craig: All's Fair In Love And War.

I think I must agree with vtolegend and I actually love the new album. You can keep comparing all the albums or you can appreciate each one as they are meant to be appreciated.

RE: Does anyone actually like the new album?
I didn't actually like the album the first time I listened to it, with the exceptions of four songs (five counting Choose Your Fate), but I re-listened to sometime after and I have to say my first impression was so wrong. This album is awesome. For me, it's definitely around the quality of DIYLF (although I'd still take DIYLF over ETF). Going to go through the songs..

I love the instrumentals on Choose Your Fate, and it's a kick ass way to start the album. Then we get to Massacre, which I hate. It's a generic mess. Anyways, then we got Issues, which is one of my favorite Escape The Fate songs. The chorus is just amazing, especially "Chokes me like a noose" line. Zombie Dance is a decent track, middle-ground. Gorgeous Nightmare is probably my favorite off the album. It's music love from beginning to end. City Of Sin is terrible, and honestly sounds like a song Nickelback would do. I like Nickelback, but it just doesn't work for them. Even without that thought, I just don't like it. Day Of Wreckoning is also decent. Lost In Darkness is one of the albums best. Loved this one the first time I heard it (like Gorgeous Nightmare), my only problem is the bridge lacks in comparison to the rest of the song. Prepare Your Weapon is above average (depending on my mood), but I wouldn't rank it up with the best on the album. World Around Me is kind of terrible, but I'd rank it over Massacre and City Of Sin. The Aftermath (G3), is my least favorite Guillotine song but that's not an insult, as it's still one of the best. Although, it does piss me off that it's no longer about Halo. I prefer personal songs, so I'm glad Craig wrote it about something personal, but it irritates me when they change the meaning of something in a trilogy on the third of the track. Also a bit sad their was no breakdown at the end, but the track is great and those are just weird nitpicks. Both The Final Blow and Liars And Monsters are great. The former is just awesome the entire song, while the latter has a really awesome chorus. As for the remixes, I don't care about remixes...

So yeah, I think this album is great, minus a few misses.

Oh man I hope my previous post on this thread wasn't harsh or misconstrued but that's how I feel. I don't think anyone read my entire post or really understood it I LOVE this album and I felt that my post pretained to the thread. I critiqued it only because that is how the thread started. I became a fan because ETF are trully unique and take care in thier lyric writing. So when I hear a song that is not up to par I feel obliged to express my feelings I trully appericate this album and ETF but you have to admit their lyrics are not what they used to be but on this album they definently improved but I still hope to hear them mature even more and get even bigger BY THE WAY WORLD AROUND ME HAS 56 LISTENS ON MY IPOD I FUCKING LOVE THAT SONG AM I LESS OF A MAN?

Max: My God!
Craig: Forgive Me
Max: For All Of
Craig: The Bodies
Max: I've Taken
Craig: In Battle
Max & Craig: All's Fair In Love And War.

No. horrible comparison. at least think of a pop band, not a country-esque band
yes city of sin has simple lyrics, but its constructed brilliantly in my opinion
Everyone always compares to DIYLF
Those of us from a technical/musical background have come to a general consensus that this albums a step up from the rest.
World around me is an awesome ballady type song
and lost in darkness is just a sick twisted demented like song thats just grungey

Yeah, Nickelback is a rock band, not sure where you are getting country-esque. They do have country rock present in their songs, but for the most part they're not. Nickelback's singles from the last album alone are almost all alternative rock, post-grunge, or hard rock. The simple lyrics and meaning are a big reason to why it makes me think of them. I also feel City Of Sin has a more rock-feel to it, so I don't think it's that horrible of a comparison.

I feel I should mention my opinion of World Around Me, has improved as I decided to give it another listen to. I'd rank it about average now. Seems like one of those songs that improves with each listening to.

Oh, and why did you bring that up about Lost in Darkness? I figured most of this was in response to my post, but stated that I loved Lost In Darkness in my last post (and I do).
